The Gateway Grizzlies are happy to announce pitching coach Randy Martz is back for the 2016 season.

Martz enters his 10th season as the team’s pitching coach.  The former Major League pitcher has been with the team since Phil Warren was hired as the manager prior to the 2007 season.  Martz spent seven years with the River City Rascals, three as their manager, before coming to the Grizzlies.

Martz was the 12th overall pick by the Chicago Cubs in the 1977 amateur draft.  He spent the 1980-1982 seasons with the Cubs.  Martz finished his career with one game in a Chicago White Sox uniform in 1983.  He compiled a 17-19 record with seven saves in 68 appearances as a Major League pitcher.

During the offseason Martz is the head coach of Lewis and Clark Community College in Godfrey, IL.

“Our team ERA has been near the top of the league the last two seasons and Randy is a big reason why,” Warren stated.  “The player’s love having him around.”
