PITCHING SHINES AS GRIZZLIES SWEEP CORNBELTERS
Sauget, Ill. - The Gateway Grizzlies used four pitchers to shutout the Normal CornBelters on Thursday evening at GCS Ballpark, sweeping Normal in a three-game set with a 1-0 victory.
RHP Trevor Richards (1-1) was terrific through six innings of scoreless baseball while allowing just four hits. The Grizzlies (7-5) then used LHP Jon Jones, RHP Jordan Wellander, and RHP JaVaun West to finish the game. All three relievers did not surrender a single hit to Normal's offense.
The lone run for Gateway came in the fourth against CornBelters starter Michael Schweiss. With one out, Blake Brown stepped in and a bashed a solo homer over the left field wall. Brown's third long ball of the season made it 1-0.
Schweiss did not allow another run, while two Normal relievers shut out Gateway's offense the rest of the way.

In the ninth, West came on and allowed the tying and go-ahead runs to reach base. West then struck out Alex Schmidt with one out and induced a ground ball to end the game.
The Grizzlies completed the three-game sweep of Normal (2-10) and enter Friday at a season-best two games above .500.
