Jamey Smart enters his first year with the Grizzlies and his second as a professional in 2019.
Gateway acquired Smart, who turned 23 on May 9, in a trade with the Lincoln Saltdogs of the independent American Association on Oct. 11, 2018, in exchange for future considerations.
After dominating for 11 games with the Santa Fe Fuego of the independent Pecos League to start last season, he was picked up by the Winnepeg Goldeyes of the American Association for two games, then landed with the Lincoln for the final 16 games of the year.
Smart played four years at NCAA Div. I Loyola Marymount (Calif.) University, where he was a 2017 First Team All-West Coast Conference choice as a junior. He hit .326 with six home runs, 41 RBIs, and an .858 OPS in 56 games.
