Colton Freeman is in his first year with the Grizzlies and his third as a professional in 2018.
Although he debuted professionally in 2016, Freeman is still classified as Rookie-1 in the Frontier League because he's appeared in just five games over two seasons as a pro — four appearances with the Arizona League Cubs in 2016, and one with the Evansville Otters last year.
Freeman was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 20th round of the 2016 MLB Draft out of the University of Alabama.
A native of Hoover, Alabama, and a graduate of Spain Park High School, Freeman pitched three seasons for the Crimson Tide. He accumulated a 3.38 ERA in 15 2/3 career innings while piling up an impressive 27 strikeouts against 12 walks.
Freeman's grandfather, Wayne Freeman, was an All-American on the Alabama offensive line as a member of the 1964 Crimson Tide national championship football team.
