BROWN FIRES THIRD NO-HITTER IN GRIZZLIES HISTORY

SAUGET, IL – Gateway right-hander Tim Brown pitched the third no-hitter in Griz zlies team history Saturday night in a 9-0 win against the Lake Erie Crushers at GCS Ballpark.

It was the first since August 9, 2008 when Eric Ridener and Zack Gray combined for a no-hitter at Kalamazoo.  Adam Jahnsen also tossed a no-hitter against Kenosha on August 14, 2003 at GCS Ballpark. 

 

Brown, a 26-year-old St. Louis native, scattered two walks and struck out four batters while tossing 120 pitches, 77 of them for strikes.  The 6-3 right-hander threw four and two thirds perfect innings before walking a batter with two outs in the fifth inning.  He also walked a batter in the seventh.

 

Gateway committed three errors defensively, including two in the ninth inning before Anderson Hidalgo grounded out to shortstop to finish off the game.

 

The Grizzlies homered five times in the game to account for all nine runs. 

 

Antone DeJesus smacked two home runs, including an eighth inning grand slam.  Jon Myers, Jet Butler and Alex Guthrie all hit solo home runs.

 

The Grizzlies and Crushers finish up their series Sunday night at GCS Ballpark.  All-Star Ja'Vaun West (7-2) will pitch for the Grizzlies.  It's Kids Club Night and Kids Run the Bases after the game.  First pitch is set for 6:05.
