SAUGET, Ill. – The Gateway Grizzlies defeated the Southern Illinois Miners behind clutch hitting on Thursday night at GCS Credit Union Ballpark. FINAL SCORE: Gateway: 5, Southern Illinois: 4.

Gateway starter Alec Kisena set the tone by retiring the side in order in the first while his teammates gave him early run support.

In the bottom half of the first, three straight singles and a bases loaded walk to Blake Brown gave the Grizzlies an early one run lead. Terry McClure followed with an RBI-double to extend Gateway's lead to 2-0.

Southern Illinois tied the ballgame in the second inning on an infield single and a bases loaded walk.

After both teams put up another run to tie the score at three, Gateway took the lead for good in the fifth.

With two outs, Gateway first baseman Jack Hranec delivered a two-out RBI single, and second baseman Evan Rogers did the same thing the next at-bat.

Hranec finished with two RBIs on the night.

Kisena earned the victory to bring his season record up to 3-4. He worked through six and two-thirds, allowing four runs and striking out seven.
